That means no re-tooling to go from one to the other. The thing I love about this thing is that the jointer and planer both spin at the same time. I paid the man and we devised a ridiculous plan to load this thing into my mini-van, which surprisingly actually worked. I really didn't need to see anything else. But the thing just powered up like it had been oiled and lubed yesterday and laid a smack-down finish on the test board I ran through the planer. If it would have hiccupped in the slightest I would have been out the door. The seller was liquidating his brother-in-law's estate, knew nothing about the machine, and said it hadn't run in ten years. I was looking for any reason not to buy the thing, I don't want headaches with a machine I can't service and the thing must weigh four hundred pounds. I do really like mine but I hate my jointer so when I saw a Hitachi F1000A jointer/planer go up on Kijiji for $300 I figured I better check it out. I know, I know, I'm the guy always defending the lowly lunchbox planer.
